Who We Are and What We're Doing

We are a full-service advertising agency, but we're making more of a splash with Internet applications like Intranets, Extranets, and electronic commerce. On the corporate side, we've found that many of our clients are looking for workable communications solutions; both with their sales force and their customers.

This field is not new to us — we created our first Web site more than eight years ago and have worked hard to stay on the leading edge of the medium. Of course, all of us have practical marketing communications backgrounds and experience, so we work to avoid adding clutter and "features" to sites that have a tendency to interfere with the sales message.

Why "Rare Bird"?
The name is derived from the latin term "rara avis", meaning a rare or unique person or thing. At Rare Bird, we have pooled the disparate talents of the individuals that work here to create a synergistic approach to the work we do. Marketing experience, technological savvy, and business acumen all come together to create a unique approach to solving problems for our clients.

The Principals
Jim Cota, President and Creative Director, spent eight years working for an advertising agency before launching Rare Bird in 1999. In that time, he worked for a wide variety of clients across a wide spectrum of media: print, electronic, outdoor, etc. Since then, Jim has been focusing more on Internet-related communications for companies seeking to leverage the power and potential of this exciting medium to enhance sales and further define a cutting-edge corporate culture. Want to know more? Read Jim's blog.

Troy Chandler, our design partner, has a great eye for good work and a talent for creating it. With more than twelve years of hands-on experience, he knows the industry and brings an overall marketing sense to the work he creates. He has been known to (God forbid!) suggest headlines and copy changes from time to time. In the last few years, Troy has focused his talent on creating some of our best sites — whether it be for a leading pharmaceutical company, a wedding accessory retailer, or a sheep and goat materials supplier.

Ben Rothe is the leading programming/information architect side of the operation. His talent is an extraordinary blend of strong design and fluent programming skill. These two talents enable Ben to implement design into his programming, creating a user interface that people understand and like to use. Ben leads a team of talented programmers with a strong sense of purpose, skill, and attention to detail. We're sure that in your interaction with programmers you've experienced frustration with their lack of design sense or inattention the users perception. We're also sure that won't happen here.
